Ipoh, Perak Darul Ridzuan, Malaysia

At the heart of Kinta Valley. The capital city of the state of Perak. An opposition stronghold. Factory of brilliant people. Desolated through emigration of its inhabitants to other parts of the country and overseas. Yet... it is forever remembered by its people.

MCA – Malaysia Cowards’ Association
By: H.C Pang, 29 May 2004

I wonder if any of you have been reading the papers lately, that is, reading between the lines, I mean. The local university intake results have just been announced and unsurprisingly, STPM graduates are once again the greatest losers in the battle of Malaysian meritocracy.

As usual, students throng the MCA Appeals Bureau for assistance in obtaining the course of their choice that is, if they were offered a course at all in the first place. The MCA leaders, as in years pass, grace the headlines announcing the availability of their services, indirectly, in essence, impressing the people that MCA is their party of choice.

From my perspective, this is an irony. Had the MCA leaders stood up for our rights in Parliament, in the Cabinet, in all that they do, would all this have happened? Had MCA leaders spoke up for the truth about the injustice taking place in the nation year after year, is there even a need for all these Services and Appeals Bureau? If only these Chinese “leaders” sum up the courage to defend and uphold the rights of their own people, a lot of anxiety, tears and deaths could have been avoided.

Indeed, the MCA appeal efforts now are but in truth, the washing of MCA’s dirty linen in public. It is a testimony that the MCA has failed a whole generation of Chinese students.
