Ipoh, Perak Darul Ridzuan, Malaysia

At the heart of Kinta Valley. The capital city of the state of Perak. An opposition stronghold. Factory of brilliant people. Desolated through emigration of its inhabitants to other parts of the country and overseas. Yet... it is forever remembered by its people.

MAS's surcharge issue...
Start from 1 June, MAS will charge extra RM100 for 2-way international flight and RM30 for asia flight, due to the tremendous rise of petrol price. Domestic flight fare is still remain unchanged, for which the operation costs will be 100% absorbed by government.

Statistic shows that petrol price was increased to USD42.63 in April from USD37 in March, and it rose to USD45.76 in May. Based on the current trend, it's estimated to the level of about USD51 in June. In another word, MAS needs to bear extra operation cost of RM150 million in every quarter. At the time, it's estimated that the surchages will bring RM62 million to MAS, and the rest of cost need to be beared by MAS.

The Cabinet approval shows its wise solution, judging that the international and asia flight passengers are affordable to pay extra, and at the same time trying to protect domestic passengers' benefits.
