Ipoh, Perak Darul Ridzuan, Malaysia

At the heart of Kinta Valley. The capital city of the state of Perak. An opposition stronghold. Factory of brilliant people. Desolated through emigration of its inhabitants to other parts of the country and overseas. Yet... it is forever remembered by its people.

Haven't heard of the Lee Ban Chen's book. But I have read Farish Noor's the Other Malaysia, that one is an excellent read, loaned it from Piow, i tell you, it could be a good Sejarah textbook,.. which is definitely much better, and makes more sense than Mahathir's The Malay Dillemma.
Another good book I would recommend if you want to understand Mahathirism would be
Paradoxes of Mahathirism - Khoo Bhoo Teik, Oxford Press, 1995.

In that book, Khoo Bhoo Teik cleverly outlined the traits of Mahathirism - populism, authoritarianism, social darwinism/racism/, Islam, modernisation - it is full of paradoxes, sometimes you can even see it as hypocrisy. Yeah, sometimes, Mahathir has a lot that contradict himself.

I think this man has a great wealth of wisdom, in him, but also wrong impressions and wrong decisions, which he does not want to admit.
