Narrow-minded Malaysian Students
Yeah, this is going to be yet another entry about the sad state of Malaysian students. Well, not that SAD la.... but it is sad enough that we have not been stimulated to our best potential.
It would have been best, if we knew how to motivate and stimulate ourselves to great excellence, originality and just plain brilliance. However, most of us are like raw stuff waiting to be trained and moulded by the experts. And perhaps we do not have the expert.
Especially, in a university with people who are not so wise running the show, where even the oldest book in the world, the Bible are not allowed officially. What more can we expect?
Anyway, I decided to shout it out here, after hearing what my new surgeon lecturer, Dr LM said:
"You Malaysian students think narrowly. It is so obvious when you observe the overseas elective students. They think WIDE.
Actually, they are no more intelligent than you guys. I didn't have the grades to do medicine here, that's why I have to go overseas.
You are the ones who have the grades to do medicine locally. But you all think too narrowly, not open-minded enough. And maybe because of this, you all would be worse doctors."
In clinching a diagnosis, we have to think of all possible causes prior to that. By not missing what could be so tricky, we become the better doctors, and vice-versa.
The convocation for this academic year would be held next week. Much fanfare and congratulations would be heard and seen. But we must also swallow the fact we have not been trained and educated to our best potential. This fact we must swallow and strive to improve ourselves.
No point bluffing ourselves about how good we are, but in the end, all we have is just a metallic shell with an obsolete engine.
