Ipoh, Perak Darul Ridzuan, Malaysia

At the heart of Kinta Valley. The capital city of the state of Perak. An opposition stronghold. Factory of brilliant people. Desolated through emigration of its inhabitants to other parts of the country and overseas. Yet... it is forever remembered by its people.

I have come across with an article yesterday. It's all about Sam M. Walton, the illustrious american cowboy who acted as the founder of Wal-Mart, thw world largest and elite retailer and merchandiser.

I smile mildly, thinking that it was another excerpt that I couldn't miss out. Reading others' bibliography, the way they strived and sprawled the last, their astute and discerning eyesight, the formulate of success and the long history since its small hub of retailng until the arrrogant worldwide kingdom of uncountable franchise merchandising, is really an invigorating experience, which is kinda inspired and heightened.

Sam Walton, an imp from a poor family, was stirred in the financial constraint since his childhood. The frequent change of employment happened on his father, which was due to the economic downturn had motivated the little guy's aspiration to work intelligently for a better life.

The mantra of Wal-Mart has successfully reached a win-win situation to all parties. Walton emphasised on the low-price retails to help the consumers to save the maximum expenditure without the deteriorition of quality. His long-term goodwill had gained the consumers' confidence and relatinship. The sales prices which were always maintained as the lowest, causing life became immesurably more difficult for every other competitors, and hence he emerged as the formidable player in this retailing industry. Albeit his competitors knew Walton's strategies of his trademarked "lowest prices to benefit all", but sometimes they found that it was quite impractical and had their harrow time to emulate the multi-pronged strategy. This is the main sake of why Wal-Mart can grow organically and arrogantly under the stewardship of its shrewed founders and successors, and emrged as the world wealthiest business, before giving way to Microsoft for the last decade.

Sam Walton, althrough being affluent, yet he still prefered his moderate lifestyle - with his austere appearence, ride with economic-class flight or ship sailing, and even would seriously bend down his body to pick a penny. He could be described as someone who is respectful and there are many values that we should be treasured from him. Lavish lifestyle and extravagance always ends one's up with sense of complacency, laziness, gullibility and out of focus.

I wouldn't write much about him here, since I was critised of my longish blog. Forgive me about my lunatic blog as I haven't empowered the skills of writing a concise and succinct, yet eloquent weblog. I will learn it.

A special unit will be set to specifically handle the sexual and child abuse cases in every district of police station. This unit will be under the team of "well and specially trained" officers, which mostly comprises of women officers. Besides this, the inquiry counters will be placed seperately with other common criminal cases, where the victims will no longer have their harrowing time in lodging report in front of all sorts of people around. This can ease the procedure of inquiry where the victims can find their ease time while telling theis humiliation. The sexual abuse cases will be viewed with priority.

Undeniedly, the swift effort in curing this social inhuman cases should be given applauses as the recognition towards government determination in delivering an efficient public services, as pedged by our PM. We can notice the soft approach in taking care the victims' feeling also while making the report. Nevertheless, in my view, the set-up of this unit merely can deal with those who takes up their greatest courage to report, and how about the rest of victims who adopt to remain silent, repress and distraught?

So, amidst this first step in handling the sexual and child abuse, government should also ponder of other alternatives to ensure their citizen's safety, especially women and child. Among the action which can be taken is to give appopriate education to these group on self-protection, the existing self-protected equipment, and lastly the importance of lodging report if they face any assault or abuse.

Still remember the rape-cum-murder cases towards Canny Ong, Noritta Samsuddin, Nurulhuda Ghani, Siew Fong etc, which seem get virulent among the rapists last and this year. Yes, this kind of heinous and grusome cases used to evoke a huge outcry from the public. But, to be frank, we have seen it all before and yet, the momentum just vanished once something else came along to command attention. And the targeted group of women and child will continuely be victim ot the rapists, who always stay intriguing, unimaginable evil lurks behind the impassive face.

Hence, as suggested, the related authorities must think of a more holistic solution in tacking this brutal cases. Not only that, a better understanding of the potential culprits must be the imperative action also. According to local psychiatrist, in fact everyone is the potential culprit. The long-term under-pressure patients with their weird behaviour is the testament of his statement. So, the sexual, abuse or the rape-cum-murder cases cannot be treated independently as they are also linking to other side-effect social ills, underpinned with tremendous physical development.

As chinese poem pronounce: one type of rice revives various types of human being. So, it's not too exaggerated to say that we are explored to various treats all the time now. This entrenched problem should not taken for granted and it's everybody responsibility to solve it, and marshall their enegy to develop the morally development, to achieve the equilibrium with the current physical developement.

Board of Directors and Executives of Ipoh Tauges

Foo Chee Hoe: A multiple-field-capable buddy. More than a doctor to me. Simply and at any time a writer, a speaker, and a creative designer. Sometimes, he might be undecisive of what he wants to do. In other words, in certain matters, he is fickle-minded and keep on changing his mind from west to east and vise versa. This is his trait of trying not to plunge into either extreme end of a situation or thought. Nontheless, he is one that I can truly depend upon to blog, to revel in reading Farish Noor's articles, to discuss about politics, education, to lambast the government and menteris and also to enjoy washing eyes; at SS2 Murni or even Darussalam.

Lee Kar Kin: Brilliant achiever academically. Top in STPM. Top in IT of UM. But, in some personal affairs and plans, lucky stars have not drawn near him. Perserverance and hardworking will never be eliminated from his daily cores. Striving on every moment of his life to improve and empower himself with knowledge, experience and ability to communicate well verbally and non verbally. He is someone I can definitely seek to be a enthusiatic and motivated business partner.

Yeoh Kok Ming: A commonest buddy in a lot of things. Since knowing him in Tingkatan 1M, we have been able to share some funniest and stupidiest events together. He was once an Alex Ferguson of a football team, recruiting the best footballers available to make his club a reality. Sometimes, he does talk big, but actions tarak. Nevertheless, if he is serious in his tasks, I can bet that you will see the best possible results. In those days, he was an avid pursuer of engineering but in the end, he also ended up in a medical school.

Benedict: Si bulat macha. He was an active blogger when Ipoh Tauges first started but now he seems to be disappearing. In our school days, he did know a lot of things and I wonder why he kept on asking his classmates questions which he already knew the answers.

Klang - a health hazard

Not trying to complain, but actually, I realise that the lifestyle here is quite bad for health

1) the water here smells one kind, and sometimes there is no water also, and when the supply returns - teh tarik colour yang keluar.... this is the kind of water that we drink all the time...and no money to buy filter leh....

2) The kind of food that we eat - too much of carbohydrates that make you fat, and too much oil, and the taste is bad...

3) The kind of bathroom that we have - dirty la...

4) The lack of time for proper sports everyday

5) the tendency to cook supper- thus adding the carbohydrate intake...

that is why, I am getting fatter, sicker, slower, stupider.......

Klang oh klang....

The 3 ipoh tauges above are believed the most active guys in weblog of http://www.ipoh.blogspot.com among the 6AA alumni.. Of course we also enjoy reading sister Li Yien's and brother Kak Choon's email. How about the rest of our dearest friends? Just spare some time to login our weblog website and leave your piece of mind and tanya khabar in virtual space, since we can hardly meet each others face-to-face.

Don't forget our motto: wacky, wise, witty... We're uniquely united.

Getting to know that many of my university friends have started their next pace into the world of employment. Majority of them are involved in the field of IT, which need to work overtime, and most of them are rewarded with salary below RM2000. This kind of work is too tedious for me, and if possible, I'll try to get rid of it. Perhaps human being are always changing when they are put into different environment or chronological life.

Just take myself as example. While I was in my secondary school life, frankly say that I never thought of my future seriously as my bunch of friends went into science stream, and thus I followed also. During that time, my blissful thinking told me that I was among the most intelligent and it will be an enormous waste if I study in art stream.

After form 5, automatically I would proceed to 2-year pre-u studies in Form 6. And being a 18-year-old youth who full of aspiration to become a respectful doctor, thus I adopted biology class to achieve my rosy hope. And I'm so grateful knowing my Form 6 friends in ACS Ipoh, where I could still remember my first day in 6RA vividly. The first person I encountered, if not mistaken, was either fooji or voonchin, who sat besides me. Then later I knew the dudes who sat far far away in the right back corner in the classroom - our monitor boonteong, pang who kindly help us to shifted the chairs with his solemn face, as well as kokming and munfoo. The left back corner, however, was occupied by our Mr.Kiasu Alan Koay, Jesse, Poong and Jian Woei. And centre back seats were monitored by 3 man-in-black - Jason, Benedict and Ruben. I whispered to cheeyen: these group of guys maybe the most naughtist, rebellious and never study hard, because normally the hardworking one will sit in front.

Haha... 2 years really crept swiftly, as it was the time that we pursued to next higher level of education. And of course, I was mentally changed also in these 2 years, as I started realising the medical field might not my cup of tea. Yes, my flying colors STPM result was qualifed for me to pursue to study medicine in any local university. Likewise, the people surrounding me expected me to study medicine. Yet, after sobering thinking, I opted for the world of IT, as I thought that these kind of challenges would more suit to me.

3 years of university life was totally different with the previous school time. As many other undergraduates, I was burdened with deluge of assignments and tests, and we hardly found enough time for final exam preparation, yet we still could pass the exams and score well. Another different lifestyle was we could sleep until 10 or 11'o clock in the morning if our lecture classes are in the afternoon.

3 years in university also provided ample room and exploration to know this money-obsessed world, especially for us who studied in KL. Being the capital city of Malaysia, KL is undoubtedly full of excitement and exhilaration. In a nutshell, you can request for anything in KL as long as you have plenty of pennies on your wallet or purse.

Work in IT world directly links to programming. I'm not hating programming, but I'm not satisfied the life being a programmer who need to work days and nights with less remuneration. In other words, I surely strive my hardest work if I develop the application and system for myself or my own established company. So, in these area of globalisation, I started to equip myself with other knowledge too, like entrepreneurship, business, management, marketing, finance, and ICT. Thus, I have participated in some competitions and programmes to upgrade my leadership skills and interpersonal skills. I like working in group, as this is the most effective way to absorb others' knowledge and wits. In fact, I enjoy working in team, and there is a great pleasure to see every members' enthusiasm and feisty vision-shared determination.

So, when someone asks my current situation, I will give them a simple yet eloquent answer: rest for a while first before attending Petronas English Communication Programme in INSTEP, Terengganu on 10-23 April. The training will be followed by the call of interview by Petronas HR Department. It's confirmed that Petronas has phrased out the IT Department and opted for outsourcing. So possibly they won't need much IT scholars. Of course I will attend their interview and notify them with my willingness to work in other departments like business planning & development, marketing and trading, project management, administration & general affairs or human resource management. I hope to work in Petronas due to its lucrative remuneration and plenty of allowances, 5-day working time without overtime, high chances to travel overseas, nature of business and environment, and of course its title as the most biggest and profitable company in Malaysia. Not only that, its flexible time also greatly allows me to efficiently embark upon other meticulous plan. If they choose to release me without any compensation, then I'll like other undergraduates and start seeking for IT jobs in KL and Klang Valley. Life is not easy in KL, as days will be very hard to stuggle if stay jobless for even a short period.

Just leave to fate to determine my future... Nevertheless, I have expected the year of 2004 is my turbulent career year, and I'm ready to face it with calm. Preseverance will prevail, I vigorously believe.

A Second In Time

O Ngaaa...
Breaks the silence,
From a zygote to a foetus to an infant,
cuddled in the arms, with warmth and love.
My pursed lips and rivulets of streaming saliva,
slumbering away in soft lullabies.

Mummy...
Shouts of exuberance,
of joys, laughter and curiosities.
In the playground the swift, subtle motion,
of chasing excited six year olds,
with Barbies or Hot Wheels leading the way.

Alright Dad...
Answered a reluctant me,
From wee-hour parties to bottles of cranberry-flavoured vodka,
Rebellious and Wilful - that was it!
Strong headed, imperious and ugly... yet
Beautiful in the folks' eyes.

Go son... go for it...
My new responsibilites and duties,
Playing a triadic role
of father, son and spouse,
Being with my love and the imps till eternity...
through weakness and strength, happiness and sorrow.

Great work my boy...
Age crept in quickly and quietly,
Old, useless, ruddy and rusty,
With my trusty, tawdry walking stick,
I strut slowly and gracefully,
under the dark, silent, peaceful, breezy night... towards the rising sun of tomorrow.

The poem above is Arthur Too's genuine product. Arthur Too, a boy with the words, shines ablaze in Wellington College in New Zealand. The poem above, was written by him a week after his father in Muar passed away. He, nonetheless, was not able to attend his father's funeral due to the financial constraint. What a real story from the paper. I heartfeltly compassionate to him.

Nevertheless, he had converted his sorrow into unleashed power and later came out with this poem, which garnered a recognition from his school director, and was successfully selected for inclusion in "Re-Draft 3", a compilation of writings by young Australians and New Zealanders.

If we read the poem with passion, we will notice: there are 5 chronological life of a person, and a great reminder for people who gradually lose their identity and start grumbling, dismay, and despair. The morale of the poem: we should appreciate every second lin our life and most important point that have been carried out is - we should cherish our loved one, make them happy and never let them feel worry and anxious about us.

Last few couple of weeks I was enveloped with sombre atmosphere, due to some personal affairs. Nevertheless, I was almost back to my pace recently. I should know, my parent are my tower of spirit, and I owe them so much, especially my mum. I should strive hard, and focus on my career first for the time being for a brighter future for myself as well as my parent.

Thus, Arthur's poem really gives me a valuable story. I wish him the best, always be cheerful and optimistic.

One more week to my end of Paeds posting exams, which I am supposed to have mastered the whole textbook, and ready to examine a child properly.

To achieve this in a weeks' time with obligatory toilet, eating, lepak duties, will make it hard. For the past one week, I have spent much time blogging about elections, and tuning for the results and updates.

Now, I have some mid-year resolutions that I hope my friends would pray for me about:-

1) that I will not waste time in daydreams and heartaches

2) that I shall not be too vocal and end up losing opportunities. Vocal as in big mouth, talking nonsense and laughing out loud.

3) that I shall stop using rude words - like bloody hell, bloody fool, f++k, shit, etc.

Saturday, March 20, 2004

I parked my car at the Kinta Medical Centre, and get myself walking all the way to Chin Woo Hall. A lot of cars were already parked by the roadside then and this did serve as an indication that the crowd was huge. As I was walking towards the hall, I could hear the voice of a man, speaking out loud and clearly, enthusiastically and in an eloquent and fluent mixture of Mandarin, English and Malay.

As I was at the street of Ali Pitchay (I am not too sure), I could see the intense atmosphere. People, really a lot of them, standing, to listen to the speech delivered by my favourite politician, Mr Lim Guan Eng. I stood on the street, looking at the big screen outside the hall and paying attention to what Guan Eng had to say.

Truly, that was my first time hearing his speech. Simply marvellous and charismatic. Thong Fah Chong got to really pay tuition fees to learn more! After finishing his speech, he rushed to somewhere, I am not so sure where, but I managed to shook his warm right hand. Something which I feel really honored!

Later, around 11.15pm, the crowd was in high spirit as Mr Lim Kit Siang made his way to the pulpit. Uncles and aunties were just busy saying in Cantonese "Lam Kat Seong gong yeh lor.." He started off with the explanation as to why Tun Dr Mahathir came to Ipoh when the latter in his speech earlier on, said that the people need not opposition in the Parliament.

The ceramah ended at 12am. I stayed back a while because I want to make use of the opportunity to talk and shake hands with Lim Kit Siang and other members. There were actually many other young working adults too who as eager as I am just came back from Klang Valley to see him and to vote this Sunday.

I shaked hand with Mr. Lim Kit Siang!!!

It's now 12.25am. Yes! Around 25 minutes ago, I shaked hand with DAP president Lim KS!!!

I was just getting know the seminar held by DAP Miss Fong at Lahat's assembly hall from the paper yesterday. So, being the "infant" yet avid political "analyst", of course I won't miss the chance to take a glimpse on BG's incumbent Miss Fong Poh Kuan. Along with my parent, we reached there at 8.15pm, while 31-year-old Miss Fong was already having her speech to the local folks. Clad in white satin shirt with scarf worn around the neck, as well as a formal black skirt, she captivated the audience by delivering her anguished dissatisfaction by the mixture of dialects, including cantonese, mandarin, hakka and malay. Miss Fong, who titles with "small chili paddy" by the public, was giving a confident impression, and exceptional natural charisma. The ever-smiling lass had successfully conducted the talk with her own characteristic aplomb, and meticulously listed down inefficient governmental machinery, and how the MPs and BN leaders cheat and give the inaccomplished promises in order to win the votes. In one part of her presentation, she had put an "inaccurate" weighing scale in front for a more effective presentation. She put a brick onto the weighing scale and stated its weight to the audiences, let's say 4kg, but nevertheless, she revealed candidly that its actual weight is 2.5kg. So, the one-to-one reflection has vividly signified the way of some wanton governmental staff did for some assigned development projects in committing racketeering. So she appeal for folks' mandate, allowing her to bear the responsibility to monitor or mentor country's or state's development project for a totally transparent and stellar fund allocation.

For sometime, she also had the light moment with the audiences by articulating her "love women and love men too" statement. Her witty quip can be described as she will always the women representative in parliament to seek for women's rights. She commented that the current disorder society and few heinous and inhuman rape-cum-murder cases happened on female victims like Canny Ong, Nurulhuda Ghani, Noritta Samsudin and recently Siew Fong had sizzlingly alarmed about women's securities. Hence, she urged for women's unstinting supports, so that she can revoke these brutal yet gradually vanished issues again in the parliament. But, amid delivering the endearment and heartfelt messages to women, how can she "express" her "love" to men? Haha.. her austere answer had reversely converted into question to the gentlemen: If your spouse, or your daughter, or your loves work or study in KL currently, would you worried about their safety amidst the complicated and insecure life in KL? So her statement was proved solid to seek for mandate in cherishing women, and at the same time to their loved too.

The devoid of time didn't allow her to prolong her speech, as she needed to rush for the talk at Bukit Merah and later First Garden, she politely excused herself and while she strolled out, with a trademark sunshine smile and dewy complexion, she never forget to shake hand with the local citizens.

Thus, we followed as well to Bukit Merah. The crowd here was much more bigger, as the hundreds of Bukit Merah folks thronged the streets and congregated around the talk spot, hoping to catch a glimpse of Miss Fong, who rectitudely finds her own stardom. It didn't come to my surprise, as I know that DAP has entrenched firmly here since long time ago. With the gradual whimper or weak sounds, yet Miss Fong still emerged herself as a feisty lady in giving the heightened speech, and frequently gained the applause from the audiences. In fact I could notice her total tiredness these few days in wooing BG's folks, as she need to give speech for many times everyday continuosly. I really hope that her effort and perseverance can give her a parliamentary seat after the GE. At least, I think, we still need this "chili paddy" to watch out the scale in parliament and ensure that no "wrong-weighed" goods from being sold out. Before she ended her speech and rushed to the next spot, she announced that DAP gigantic head Mr.Lim Kit Siang was on the way to here from Teluk Intan. What a delight and overjoyed I was at that moment because it's my dream to attend Lim's seminar and listen to his inspiring speech and watch his on-stage persona.

We had some tea break at Bukit Merah market before we back to the talk at 10pm. Nevertheless, Lim KS had not arrived yet. Anyway, there would not be silent spot as DAP, in fact has produced many bunches of high-calibre and persuasive speakers, just like Lim KS. Thus, we found a strategic place to continue listening their speeches. Majority of them are the former MP and former state assemblyman who worked actively in the year of 70-an and 80-an. From their speech, I had known some general knowledge which I never study before in the schoolbook. It was a totally novel and invigorating experience for me.

At about 11pm, the shouts reached to its peak with the arrival of Mr. Lim KS. "DAP! DAP! DAP!".. The relentless voices shrinked and emerged in every nook and cranny. The DAP flag is swung and DAP song was played to welcome the DAP president. Everyone was in buoyant mood to welcome him with the never-ending clapping. Lim, as usual seen in newspaper, clad immaculately in his short-sleeves collar shirt, and the plain black trousers plus the long-journey worn shoes, raised his right hand as his gratitude for local folks' endless supports.

With the fluent Mandarin, he shared his accumulated experience with the public. Occasionally, yet he also added some malay and english words to strengthen his messages. But surprisingly, he started and ended his speech with a moderate tune of voice, which was not properly suited to his extraordinary persona. The on-speech body languages were not much also as expected. I gauge he might be very exhausted to word hard on campaigning this few days.

Nevertheless, his comprehensive content of the speech had never withered or diminished. From the current issues like PM's corruption action, to the criticism of timid MCA and Gerakan leaders, until the arguement of Islamic state, he had his illustrious future ahead of him, if he can gain the majority votes from Ipoh Timor's folks and back to parliamentary seat again for this election. Lingering with current PM's corruption issue, he stated that the perception of PM as "Justice of Pao" is incorrect as he defended that "Justice of Pao", during the dynastic of Song, was woking for the emperor. Thus, he suggested that if our PM Dato' Seri Abdullah really want to play the role as "Justice of Pao", he should resign his post as PM and other related posts and work as the president of ACA. If flicking the anti-corruption result, Lim reckoned that the caught of Perwaja former director Eric Chia and Tan Sri Kasitah should not taken as excellent swift action as there are still lots of "big fish" swimming in the sea. He appealed for a patient wait from PM's next action of bribery's sweep, and he and his party will always support Abdullah if our PM can outperform a marvellous result, and elsewise, he stated, will not turn a blind eye on his lacklustre performance. He recommended Abdullah to exemplify former China PM Zhu Rongji, who showed his full determination in sweeping the corruption, saying that he prepared 100 coffins for the perpetrators: 99 for the those who involved in corruption and 1 for himself.

At around 12am, Lim KS ended his speech by asking for mandating to consolidate DAP base in Kinta Valley with his aim of 4 parliamentary seats and 12 state assembly seats. And yes, it was my immeasureble pleasure to grab the opportunity shaking hand with him before leaving.

2 more days to go for me to fulfil my responsibility as a voter. I know that my vote is imperative, not only for myself, but also for the next generation. So I'll meticulously vote for everyone's good future.

Be a responsible malaysian. Come out and vote. Happy voting.

Journeying back to Ipoh after this. What to do upon reaching? Arrange and organise back all my stuffs! Then, attend ceramahs? I heard from a lot of sources that Lim Kit Siang is gaining more grounds in Ipoh. One friend who doesnt know much about politics, after talking to her, even went for Thong Fah Chong's and Lim Kit Siang's ceramahs.

She told me Thong Fah Chong seems to be frightened. I asked why. She described that Mr Thong couldnt speak well if compared to Mr Lim. To me, that is no surprise, of course Thong doesnt have the abilities in wisdom, speech, and knowledge as much as Mr Lim.

I am sure also that Ipoh has become more lively than ever nowadays. All thanks to Mr Lim Kit Siang for making Kinta Valley or Perak the second front-line state for DAP. At the same time, I am wondering how big a majority can Kerk Kim Hock win at Kota Melaka, the fortress of DAP.

For a moment, I anticipate so much upon reaching Ipoh. Yet for another moment, I am very reluctant to leave PJ, my second home. I will not be seeing my good friends, cannot have a street soccer game every evening, and cannot meet up with my juniors anymore at least until I come back for interviews.

Farewell and goodbye to SS2/105 and PJ.

I have something to say..

The weather in Ipoh here is really hot and humid. The condition become hotter and hotter with the arrival of pakcik lah, abang ong and pakcik utar. Not only that, pakcik m will arrive Ipoh also on 19 Mac. Wauu... since when the kinta valley become a somewhat famous tourism spot and irresistible destination, until every gigantic head is willing to spare their precious time to pay a visit here? Are they attracted by our local culinary delicacies like Ipoh tauges and chicken, or the tantalising, cute Ipoh lengluis?

Haha... I guess they have been brought by our pakcik lim ks. If pakcik lim opts to contest in Sabah, or Sarawak, or Pahang, or elsewhere, then Kinta Valley will remain silent as usual, peaceful and no coalesced ripple, and the local citizens will continue their complacent and slow-rhythm lifestyle. And at that time, budget-airline AirAsia might be the party with the last huge smile. Why? Because again there will be many loyal party's members need to fly over there to give morale supports.

Indeed, pakcik lim's influence undoubtedly can't be denied or take for granted by any pakcik-pakcik from skale, and that's why, if you went to pasir pinji market last few days, you might accidently encounter with our country's most respectful and accountable pakcik lah. It's our pleasure and pride to meet him here, and don't forget, this is a golden chance to take a glimpse on him, because once you missed it, you might hardly see him around then, except you dial a call to pakcik lim, persuading him to contest at ipoh timor again another 5 years later.

According to China Press, pakcik lim conceded that his current bid has an apparent plummet from 50-50 to 47-53, after the current and ex country taukeh's visit to Kinta Valley. Huh?? pakcik lim, do you really take out your white flag at this menace? Or this is your strategy to garner local citizens' confidence and votes?

And regarding my voting territory, rumours are spreaded out that cik fong is having her toughest time currently. Current bid is: brother ong gives out 3000 votes. Why? I'm also curious to fathom. If you read the recent chinese newspaper for perak eidtion, you will see xxx taxi association, xxx chamber association etc emerging themselves in the paper and support brother ong terang-terang. In the contrast, we hardly see miss fong's photo in the paper. Moreover, in every local daily, I believe that you all have come across with skale's series of advertisements and unswearving promises, and for the opponent side, can you see even one?

Why again? aiyah... rocget, u ada $$$ kah? Do you know how is the rate to publish 1 full-page advertisement, oh no, a portion of advertisement in the local dailies or not?

How about the recent news that one of the rocget candidate who received a offer of RM400,000 if he is willing to withdraw from constituence? Can we link this to the other 17 unbattled parliament seats' and 11 state seats' constituencies in Sabah and let a easy win to skale? I mean: why the opponent candidates will withdraw themselves in the last minutes? Really considering of their devoid of financial, human resource factors and the win possibility?

Do you see dr lee bc walking around to 'fish' the votes? My dad had been his patient when he faced the heart problem. Luckily now my dad is free from any complaints of heart pain, otherwise, I think we need to drive off to Gopeng to get dr lee's treatment...

But, how about the rest of his patients? dr fooji as future best GP in Ipoh might can answer.. Jadi best GP cukup lah.. nanti tukar ke best MP susah lah..

At the end of my words, I would say, being a first-time voter, like teong and fooji, and other youth, I will have a deep clinch before throw my precious vote. It is my responsibility to vote for a clean, transparent and efficient government.

Vote for the future?

A few things I have to say before I mind my own business and study my Paeds:-

1) The current SPR webpage where last-minute people wants to find out if they are registered voters IS DOWN. I think it is rather unfortunate, or shameful for that to happen.

2) The advertisements by the RICH RULING PARTY are everywhere, from the papers to billboards to radio to TV. I would say the ones on TV are rather tasteful. But the ones in the papers that made fun of other parties are rather skewed in its message, and would mislead an ignorant commoner.

Some of the corny lines that I almost muntah darah reading are:-
i) " When we vote for BN, we vote for our children and their future" - comments: this is only true for certain people in the country, who are directly under the 'feeding' line of the govt. Many have to work it out themselves. BN should stop assuming economic and education opportunities as their property. Any government must deliver such things.

ii) "I really value BN's efforts towards greater transparency and efficiency". It shows responsibility and accountability." - comments:-another round of verbal waste. What utter nonsense. What effort is he talking about? The hangat-hangat tahi ayam-show by Badawi and BPR? Maybe that guy who said it should go visit BPR's files and find out how many more BIG fishes that are not caught. So, shut up about transparency about efficiency before you catch all those Rafidah's who are still loose on the street campaigning for votes.

iii) "We hold the people's trust. We must be therefore be trusted" - comment:- Bullshit. We are actually held ransom by the RICH RULING PARTY because there is no alternative. DAP is sadly so weak, it is almost shameful. We need a genuine alternative to the government, to the parliamentary seats. The ultra-malay of UMNO, the Islamism of PAS, the cluelessness of DAP, and the capitalism-pasar style MCA are way too boring.

3) Did you all catch the All-England men's double finals which our pair Ah Fook and Wan Wah miraculously reached. Minutes before the match, I betted with Piow that they will lose, because I do not remember watching a single important match that they won. But they did well in the first round, I was actually cheering for them. But in the end, their over-confidence, followed by immaturity sold them away. They do not have what it takes to be champions.

But then again, what happenned to them represent the general Malaysia. In many things, we seem to getting there, but hey, we are still of pasar mentality. Just like how some people do not even give DAP a chance in the parliament, they still have the pasar mentality - held political ransom by the RICH RULING PARTY.

4) Forget about all the crap manifestos. The way politics and elections go in this country is still very uncultured, unrefined. The purpose, the mission, the reason to contest and to vote seems so yucky now. Now, I am doubting if I should sacrifice a weekend away from the hospital just to vote in Falim.

5) My room mate yesterday seemed to be allergic to a DAP banner in my room. So did my cousin earlier on when I criticised some current mentri besars to him. What happenned to all this young people who lost the vision for a better Malaysia? Are they afraid of kena tangkap ISA or are they blissfully happy with BN?

6) BN does not have all the goods and answer to the MALAYSIA it was supposed to be. Mahathir spoiled some along the way. A bigger majority to BN in the parliament is of no use. What we need is a new, purposeful opposition with a strong presence in the parliament. Sadly, there is no such opposition in the present. I miss the good old days of Dr. Tan Chee Khoon.

Tauke Teong also welcomes Mr.Lim Kit Siang to Ipoh.

Ipoh Barat, Ipoh Timur and Batu Gajah will be seeing one-to-one fights. Battle of the DAP and MCA. Heavyweights are contesting in Kinta Valley, including a stupid funny-accent cocky speaking guy and an "artistic" civil engineer. And someone incompetent but lucky enough in his political career shifts to my state seat, which is a new state seat of Ipoh City Centre.

I will be casting my vote for the first time. Deep inside my heart, pure and burning, I hope to see a wind of change in Kinta Valley. I seriously believe Ipoh folks have given too much to the MCA. It is time to bring back the DAP! I am awfully sickened by MCA people and I just hope that Ipoh citizens will get rid of them.

I am saddened in a way that Ipoh folks particularly the older generation of the Chinese are still blindfolded. People were just saying that Kit Siang, if he wins, is due to sympathy votes. To me, for Kit Siang to win in Ipoh Timur and kicking out that arrogant Mr Thong is something to celebrate greatly and joyfully, maybe at the Beach Club at Jln Sultan Ismail. But the real and core matter is I want Kit Siang and other DAP members to win because of the knowing and understanding of Kinta Valley folks.

I can see that Kit Siang's chances to capture Ipoh Timur stand at 50-50. I am somehow pessimistic yet enthusiastic that the DAP will be able to make a comeback. More dangerous still is Miss Fong Po Kuan, since she will be facing MCA Perak biggest fish at Batu Gajah. If Miss Fong loses, it is going to be a huge lost to the Chinese community. How much she has fought for the public in the Parliament! If KC Ong wins, do you think he will be shouting and fighting for the social life of the people? NAH! He will tell you "Ooo.. your son cant enter Uni, never mind, MCA have set up for the Chinese a Uni itself, the UTAR, you can fill in the forms and get enrolled in any courses of your own choice". In the end, who grabs the money? Lebih lebih lagi he already said that he will consider building up more UTARs if he really makes it to the Parliament.

If the people of Ipoh have yet to see clearly, and conform still to their old mentalities that MCA will establish a more prosperous Chinese community, I shall shed my tears soon knowing that my first time voting will not bring a rocket change back to Ipoh.

To Mr Lim Kit Siang, Mr Kulasegaran and Miss Fong Po Kuan and other DAP state seats' candidates in Kinta Valley, I wish you all the best and my support goes to you all. Bring back DAP! To all Kinta Valley folks, be wise and don't get swayed by economical promises when your integrity is compromised! Come out and vote in full force for the DAP.

Happy campaigning too to all other DAP candidates in the whole of Malaysia!

P/S: I went through all the letters posted in Malaysiakini and somehow glad that there are a lot of Ipoh people just like me, seeing no progress in "kampung" Ipoh although it is called a city, and MCA has always been acting and talking sweet to bring development, true perhaps to their own businesses. Haha. Let us together vote for a better Ipoh and hope that DAP will be back in control of Kinta Valley. Rocket! Rocket! DAP! DAP!

Mr Lim Kit Siang confirms contesting in Ipoh Timor! I got the news from The Star online just now. Mr Thong, a fellow ACSian, is defending the seat. Wow wow! What a first time voting experience for me, though I am not voting in Ipoh Timor. I will be voting in the less Chinese populated Ipoh Barat. Anyway, there are 3 main Parliament seats and 9 state seats in Kinta Valley that the DAP is focussing on.. perhaps as much as Dr Fooji and Dr Pang desire, I also desire that DAP will win all these hot seats this time!!! Perhaps like Kar Kin says.. no 50-50 chance for KC Ong also!!! Haha.. it is time to get the MCA shit out of Ipoh!!!

March 2004 - A Month Full of Events

1stly - For the first time in my life, I am beginning a new life no longer as a full time student. Currently, it can be officially said that I am unemployed for a week now. Seeking employment is the first major thing that I am somehow "obliged" by nature to do!

2ndly- First time in my life also that I am going to vote for a representative to be placed in the Malaysian Parliament. My one vote doesn't seem to bring about any significant impact but it might bring about changes in the new Malaysian government.

3rdly - First time in my life that I am going to see little Benjamin celebrates his first birthday.

There are more to come! Mr Lim Kit Siang is poised to contest in the Ipoh Timor parliamentary seat. Something great to me! My hope is that, the people in my beloved hometown, Ipoh, especially the Chinese, come out in full force to vote on March 21st.

I am in no level or position to force or to persuade or to convince them to vote for those whom I am supporting (if you know me well, you will definitely know who my vote will go to), but what I have to say is, vote consciously and see for yourself how much Ipoh has developed or progressed under the incumbents and how much unnecessary invaluable "materials" are placed by them in Ipoh, which actually serve no purpose. Perhaps you might need to consult our Civil Engineer Mr Ho Cheong Sing, who was also the MP for Ipoh Barat as to why certain main roads are getting smaller in a way, after many unnecessarily tiled-road dividers are erected.

If you don't understand what I am saying, try to recall the last time you were driving from the Perak Stadium or Fair Park, heading towards the Ipoh Hospital, at the traffic lights in front of the new mosque, and you turn right, don't you think that stupid tiled divider is shrinking the turning point and causing a lot of accidents! As far as I am concerned, at junctions where there are heavy traffics, the roads should be widened and not beautified. Perhaps the civil engineering course Mr Ho took was a bit different, beauty should be always placed above safety.

Mr Ong Ka Chuan, Perak MCA chairman, is contesting in Batu Gajah? He commented (I read through The Star), that he is willing to sacrifice his safe Chenderiang seat, and to contest in a 50-50 chances of winning seat at Batu Gajah (held by our beloved and enthusiastic young lady lawyer Miss Fong), because he wants to bring more development to Kinta Valley. Haha. I grinned as I was reading. Come on, Mr Ong (not me), you are the Perak MCA chairman, if you want to develop Kinta Valley, you could actually done so for the past years. A sad thing is that after so many years only you realise that it is under-developed, and you want to run away from Chenderiang. Anyway, I am really hoping that Miss Fong will come out stronger this time around. My support goes to her.

Meanwhile, I am wondering how things are going to happen at Ipoh Timor? Mr Lim Kit Siang has yet to give the confirmation that he is for sure challenging my fellow schoolmate, Mr Thong Fah Chong. Anyway, it is good that Mr Thong is so confident of retaining his seat but I am just hoping that someone is able to bring him down.

What I hope to see is, the Kinta Valley will see some sort of its own revolutions! Ipoh Barat, Ipoh Timor and Batu Gajah are always deemed as hot seats, seeing straight fights between the DAP and MCA, and the MCA has been in control of the state's capital for two terms, and I am just hoping that my first time voting will see a "rocket" CHANGE in my beloved "Kampung" Ipoh, although from the mentality of the people there, I know to bring a "rocket" change, phew, it is hard.

Li Yien's got something to say....

For I am the Lord, I do not change. Malachi 3:6

Imagine that somebody tell you this one day as u are doing your work,

"let me tell you something about God that you may already know or perhaps you don’t know. God doesn’t ever learn a thing. He knows all things. He doesn’t have to go on spying on people to discover what’s going on: he knows. Remember when you were in school and struggled in some class trying to learn something well, God cannot learn and has never learned. He doesn’t need to. He knows everything instantly. He knows everything equally well. He never wonders about anything, never discovers anything, and is never amazed by anything. He also knows all the possibilities that can happen.

As I read the passage above, an awful truth struck me. The fact that God never has to learn but it being describe as such by the author has open up a new paradigm for me.

As I approach the end of my sem, I realise that many of us make the stupidest mistake ever in our final semester. When we are suppose to be wise and already learnt our lessons well. I miscounted my credit hours and have to do another semester to complete my degree. Another friend hard disk went bonkers and all her work was unsaved in another file. Her whole thesis needs to be retype. Another friend turn up at her exam at 11.30am when her paper is at 8.30am. Because I have experience the agony of it all, I feel so much when I hear about all these things and I think that I’ll cry before they ever do. And I realise that because I had gone thru it earlier I can now say to them there is a purpose and a reason behind it all. Though I do know that it is very hard to accept it now. Hmm. The realisation that God knows everything makes me realise that he will never be confronted with something new. As oppose to us who are ever being greeted by new and surprising news everyday. Some make us laugh some made us cry. Some needs no response. As my friend had once remark to me, I learn that rain and sunshine makes a rainbow.

And the fact that God does not change adds on to his credibility. And that is a fact that is comforting!

the pooh fan,
